AASB regularly sends members a variety of publications tailored to meet school leaders' information needs.

Our flagship publication is Alabama School Boards, a magazine which contains in-depth articles on education topics, features on successful programs in local school systems and columns on legal issues and pertinent statewide education issues.

Another popular publication is Court Report, a newsletter reporting recent state and federal court decisions impacting school boards.

AASB also publishes a variety of booklets on specific topics of interest. The Boardmanship Series contains the following titles:

  • The Fair Dismissal Laws: Step by Step
  • Personnel Hearings Under Alabama's Teacher Tenure Laws
  • The School Board President's Handbook
  • School Board Members and Ethics
  • Securing Financial Support for local Schools
  • Public Meetings & Public Records
  • Legal Requirements for Raising and Renewing Property Taxes for Public Schools
  • Selecting a Superintendent
  • Contract Principals

In conjunction with the Alabama Association of School Administrators, we also publish School Boards and Superintendents: Roles and Responsibilities, which details the relationship between the board and superintendent. These publications are sent free to all members.

To help education leaders stay up to date on actions and discussions by the state Board of Education, AASB conferences and news and other timely information, we publish For Your Information twice monthly. The recap of state Board news from FYI also is posted on our web site.
