Glover Appointed to Risk Management Board
MONTGOMERY (June 28, 2006) – Ron Glover, Montgomery Public Schools’ assistant superintendent for finance, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Alabama Risk Management for Schools (ARMS).
ARMS is a self-funded risk management program that provides automobile, errors and omissions and general liability coverage for Alabama school boards. It operates under the auspices of the Alabama Association of School Boards and works with school boards to develop strategies to limit their liability exposure to reduce and prevent costly losses or litigation.
A member of the Montgomery Public Schools staff for 34 years – including stints as a high school math teacher, payroll/accounts payable supervisor and purchasing director – Glover brings a combination of both school and financial management expertise to the ARMS position.
“Ron has a wealth of business experience and a solid knowledge of the workings of public schools that will be valuable in his role with ARMS,” said Dr. Sandra Sims-deGraffenried, AASB executive director and ARMS secretary-treasurer. “We look forward to having his insight.”
In addition to his decade-long service to Montgomery schools as assistant superintendent for finance, Glover is actively involved in professional organizations. He is a longtime member of the Alabama Association of School Business Officials, which he has served as director, vice president and, in 2004-2005, as president. He is also a member of the Southeastern Association of School Business Officials and of First Baptist Church in Montgomery where he has taught preschoolers in Sunday school for 31 years.
When there is time for leisure, the University of Montevallo and Auburn University Montgomery graduate gardens and tackles sudoku puzzles.
Glover and his wife of 34 years, Jane, have two children: Meredith, a speech pathologist, and Patrick, a college student. Jane teaches special education in a Montgomery school.
Glover joins Midfield Board of Education Superintendent Donnie Breaseale, who was also selected for a three-year term as ARMS trustee effective July 1. The other ARMS trustees include school board members Linda Steed of Pike County, Steve Freeman of Cullman County, Chip Hibbett of Florence, Eddie Lowe of Phenix City and Willene Whatley of Conecuh County. Brewton Superintendent Lynn Smith, who is chairman, and Thomasville school system business manager Linda McGhee are both retiring from the board as of June 30.
AASB represents all of the state’s local school boards. Since 1949, AASB has represented the interests of local lay control of public education. With headquarters in Montgomery, AASB provides members with a wide array of services, including boardmanship training seminars, information services and policy research.
