AASB's Annual Convention and business meeting will be at The Wynfrey Hotel in Birmingham Dec. 3-5, 2009. Eligible attendees earn Academy credit.

AASB's School Board Member Academy brings together nearly 600 school board members and education leaders from across the state for its annual convention. The three-day event features information-packed general sessions, an array of clinics on timely topics and exhibits of school products and services.

Also, delegates from member school boards assemble for the business meeting to elect AASB’s leaders, vote on resolutions and approve bylaws changes. For more information, contact us. December 3-5

AASB will present a series of regional meetings September-October 2009 and January-February 2010. The District Meetings -- one in each of the nine AASB districts -- is an opportunity for training in your own backyard. Meetings generally start with an opportunity for networking and idea-sharing before dinner and the presentation. The only cost is dinner. For details, contact us. March 13-14, 2009 (Core Course, 6 Academy Hours) - The Academy presents its core conference on Leadership for Policy and Planning at The Wynfrey Hotel in Birmingham.

If this tumultuous marketplace and budget cutbacks have taught us anything, it’s that school systems need visionary leadership to ensure students are more prepared than ever for highly competitive careers and college.

Discover how policy and planning can be Springboards to Student Success and hear knowledgeable speakers address the fundamentals of board policy, strategic planning, board liability and immunity, policy versus procedure and how to set policies that keep you out of legal trouble and prevent micromanaging. 

 

March 13, 2009 (2 Academy Hours) -"Early Bird" Workshop - This event includes a March 13 early bird session on Career Technical Education: Spring into 21st Century Careers. This workshop will help attendees understand how career and technical education has changed. You will learn how to meet the needs of students in the dual enrollment and the Early College Enrollment Program. This workshop will be at The Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover.
