Set for July 27-30 at the Perdido Beach Resort, the Alabama Association of School Boards conference will feature the theme "Surf the Wave of Success" and an opportunity to gain skills to not only enhance student achievement but to celebrate school successes. The Alabama Council of School Board Attorneys will also gather for their annual conference July 28-29.
SUMMER CONFERENCE 2008 HIGHLIGHTS
Ice Cream Social: There are two ways to cool off at the beach – a dip in the pool and a dip of creamy Blue Bell ice cream. After checking in and registering on-site, join fellow AASB members for networking at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 27, in the Perdido Resort Grand Point Exhibit Hall.
Achievement for All Students: The Alabama Caucus of Black School Board Members will host a discussion on improving achievement for all students. Caucus President the Rev. Preston Nix of Attalla invites all conference attendees to the open discussion Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the Sand Castle II.
Sand Castle Building Contest: Where else can you act like a kid, get your feet sandy and learn important lessons about team building? Only at the AASB Summer Conference! You’ll never look at sand castles the same way again. This beachside contest will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 28.
Board Presidents Roundtable: The second Alabama School Board Presidents Roundtable meeting will be Tuesday, July 29 at 1:30 p.m. in the Perdido Beach Resort ballroom. The discussion will center on “Leadership for Improved Student Achievement.”

This fall, AASB will present its School Board Member Academy Core Conference on "Leadership for Community Engagement" at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa in downtown Montgomery, Ala. Training in public, media, internal and external relations combine to help enhance relationships between schools and those they serve. Enjoy this opportunity to lean how to keep the "public" in public education.

Each winter representatives from all member school boards gather for AASB's Delegate Assembly, which convenes during the annual convention and establishes the association's goals and positions on major education issues. The annual convention is usually a three-day event held in early December at The Wynfrey Hotel in Birmingham. In addition to the annual business meeting, the convention features an array of programs on timely topics and exhibits of school products and services.
DISTRICT MEETINGS

CHECK BACK TO REGISTER
This September, AASB will present its Fall District Meetings, which offer practical, rubber-meets-the-road advice for governance teams, along with an opportunity to network with area school board members. District meetings are held in each of AASB’s nine districts. Most meetings begin with hospitality time, followed by dinner and a 45-minute program. The only cost is dinner. School board members earn one credit hour in AASB’s School Board Member Academy for attending.
